This summer Sahir House had the honour of being invited to Chiva’s Freedom 2 Be (F2B) camp in Derbyshire.
F2B camp takes place each summer bringing together up to 100 children and young people living with HIV from across the UK and Ireland. It’s a week-long event packed with a range of activities including workshops on living well with HIV and challenging stigma; exciting outdoor activities such as abseiling and canoeing giving young people the opportunity to challenge themselves and build confidence; and a variety of creative workshops including drama, art, dance and yoga to offer alternative ways of exploring HIV and expressing feelings. However, ultimately, it’s the freedom to make lifelong friends without having to hide part of who you are and have a huge amount of fun!
Four young people aged 12-16 joined camp from Liverpool this year along with Sahir House’s Children and Young People’s Support Worker, Rachael Hickmott. They had such a good time they are already planning on going again next year; one young person enjoyed it so much she plans to come back as a volunteer when she’s too old to join as a participant!
