Gender Proud Wirral

Peer Support group for folk aged 18 and over, who identify as trans, non-binary, gender diverse or questioning their gender identity, who live, work or socialise on The Wirral. 

A supportive, safe space for members of the trans, non-binary, gender fluid, and gender questioning communities to gather, build connections, seek advice, support one another, discuss important matters, and more.

Our Gender Proud group promotes positive physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing for people who identify as LGBTQ+ or those who are exploring their sexuality and/or gender identity.

We offer:

• Support with navigating LGBTQ+ specific services, resources, and community support
• A safe space to explore wellbeing topics such as mental health, relationships, identity, self-expression, and self-care
• Activities and workshops led by trained staff and guest facilitators
• A supportive, non-judgemental environment where people can share experiences openly

Gender Proud provides meaningful opportunities to:
• Connect with others who share similar lived experiences
• Reduce isolation and build supportive friendships and chosen community
• Access social events, creative workshops, skills-building sessions, and peer support
• Contribute to shaping future group themes and activities

We champion inclusion and equality by:
• Creating a safe, confidential, and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people
• Uplifting voices that may be overlooked within wider services and communities
• Ensuring equitable access to support, representation, and visibility
• Challenging discrimination, stigma, and prejudice while nurturing a strong sense of belonging

The group meets regularly for a mix of:
• Facilitated group discussions
• Peer support
• Creative and wellbeing activities
• Informative sessions with community partners, professionals, and guest speakers

All sessions are free, confidential, and shaped by the needs of the people attending.

AT SAHIR, WE:
• Provide needs led, person-centred facilitation
• Ensure sessions are safe, confidential, and supportive
• Offer one-to-one support alongside group activities
• Connect individuals to additional services such as counselling, benefits advice, housing support, sexual health services, and community resources
• Advocate for the voices of LGBTQ+ people within the wider community, health, and social care sectors
