Saturday 19 July 2025 | 2pm-5.30pm
Shakespeare North Playhouse, L34 3AB
Overview
Pride in Prescot is a new community-led event developed by Sahir to empower LGBTQ+ people and allies across Knowsley to mark Pride in a way that is authentic, inclusive, and meaningful. With a particular focus on LGBTQ+ adults – especially those who may be marginalised, socially isolated, or less connected to traditional Pride spaces – the event creates space for connection, creativity, and visibility.
Taking place in the heart of Prescot, this grassroots day of activity will complement and collaborate with the larger and more established Knowsley Pride – working in harmony to create a Pride Festival in Knowsley that spans several dates and locations, each with its own focus and audience.
Purpose & Values
Pride in Prescot offers a space where LGBTQ+ adults, particularly those who may not feel connected to larger or more mainstream Pride events, can gather, celebrate, and feel seen. The event welcomes allies and recognises the power of community in creating safer, stronger and more inclusive environments where LGBTQ+ people can thrive.
Programme of Events
Pride in Prescot will unfold as a multi-strand celebration centred around inclusion, creativity, and community connection. Activities will take place throughout the day and evening, comprising:
Sahir’s Daytime Programme (Led and Hosted by Sahir)
A relaxed and welcoming space designed especially for LGBTQ+ adults, including those who may be attending Pride for the first time or who face barriers to access.
Activities will include:
- A series of workshops themed around;
- Activism – Protest, Rights & Rage
- Creativity – Glitter, Grit & Pride
- Performance – Act, Slay, Repeat
- Spoken Word – Queers, Quills & Chaos
- Light refreshments and snacks in a social setting
- light-touch programming for the foyer and external entrance space – potentially including flash-mob-style dancers outside
- Sahir information stall inside.
- Free transport for Sahir’s registered service users to support access and participation
- A symbolic demonstration (Pride in Action) in Ken Dodd Performance Garden
- This will primarily be for those registered to attend and participate in the placard-making activities. We are open to slightly expanding this depending on volunteer capacity.
- Walk-out in solidarity from Ken Dodd Performance Garden to the courtyard area to close event
Workshop Descriptions
Protest, Rights & Rage
Make your voice seen as well as heard. In this hands-on session, we’ll channel anger, hope, and queer resistance into bold placards that shout truth to power. Materials provided — rage encouraged!
Glitter, Grit & Pride
Pride is personal — so why not make it your own? Join us to dream up, sketch, and design a flag that represents your unique identity, story, or community to add to the ‘Pride at Sahir 2025’ marching flag. Expect colour, sparkle, and plenty of meaning.
Act, Slay, Repeat
Lights, sass, action! This workshop invites you to explore performance through movement, voice, and story. Together, we’ll build mini performances that bring queer experience to life — loud, proud, and unapologetic.
Queers, Quills & Chaos
Whether it’s poetry, protest or pure emotion — this is your space to spill with a ‘quill’. Learn how to craft and deliver spoken word that hits hard, from the page to the mic. Come ready to write, express, and revel in queer chaos.
This daytime programme aims to offer a quieter, neurodivergent-aware, community-first space.
