Our Commitment

Sahir is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in line with national and global climate goals. We recognise that tackling climate change is vital for the health, wellbeing, and future of the communities we serve.

Our Approach

1. Measure & Monitor

  • Establish a baseline of current carbon emissions (buildings, travel, procurement, digital systems).
  • Annual reporting of progress to Trustees, staff, and service users.

2. Reduce Emissions

  • Energy: Petition our landlord for transition to renewable energy suppliers (if possible)
  • Travel: Prioritise public transport, cycling, walking, and virtual meetings;
  • Procurement: Prioritise local, sustainable, and low-carbon suppliers for goods and services.

3. Engage People

  • Train staff, trustees, and volunteers on sustainability and climate impacts.
  • Involve service users in co-designing greener practices that work for the community.

4. Offset and Innovate

  • Where needed, invest in credible carbon offsetting (such as reforestation and biodiversity projects).
  • Explore partnerships with local green initiatives and community organisations.

5. Governance and Accountability

  • Assign a Sustainability Lead within Sahir.
  • Include climate impact in decision-making across all projects and services.
  • Regular review by Trustees with a published progress update every 3 years.

Key Milestones

  • 2025–2030: Measure baseline, reduce energy use by 25%, switch to 100% renewable electricity.
  • 2030–2040: Transition staff travel to low/zero-emission options, embed green procurement policies.
  • 2040–2050: Eliminate remaining emissions where possible, offset any residuals, achieve Net Zero.

Net Zero 2050 Vision

By 2050, Sahir will be a carbon-neutral organisation, embedding sustainability into every aspect of our work, supporting both people and planet for generations to come.
